With reference to the 2nd paragraph of Your Lordship's Despatch No. 166 of the 2nd ultimo, I have the honour to transmit copy of a report, with its enclosures, by the Director of Public Works on the subject of the re-construction of the retaining wall at "Braeside", Inland Lot No. 1523.

2. The owner of the property is the wife of Mr. Wei Yuk, one of the Chinese Members of Council, who in 1905 had the misfortune to lose all his property owing to the failure of the Compradore for the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation for whom he stood security.

3. In view of the exceptional nature of the circumstances necessitating the re-construction of the wall; the heavy expense, stated at $15,000 prior to the re-construction now under consideration, incurred by the lessee in connection with the wall; and
